What is conformity?

According to ISO 9000:2000 Conformity is defined as "Fulfillment of a requirement". A non-conformity therefore would be a non-fulfillment of a requirement. In the context of conformity the word conformance is ofthen used, which in the negative sense is also called non conformance. Conformance is defined as "An affirmative indication or judgment that a product or service has met the requirements of the relevant specifications , contract, or regulation; also the state of meeting the requirements."

In order to meet ISO 9000 requirements non-conforming products have to be controlled.
